Shilpa is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with specialist skills in adult and paediatric ophthalmology, including cataract surgery (phacoemulsification and manual small incision cataract surgery), strabismus surgery and management of medical retinal conditions like diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration. She is passionate about providing caring, compassionate, evidence-based eye services to all her patients.

Training/Work experience:
After obtaining her MBBS degree in India, Shilpa completed her specialist training in ophthalmology in 2012, in the renowned Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. She was a gold medallist in both MBBS and specialist Ophthalmology training. Subsequently she trained in both Australia and New Zealand.

She completed a one-year fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus in the University of Auckland, training under 6 paediatric ophthalmologists, each with special areas of interests within Paediatric Ophthalmology.

After her subspecialisation, she worked in India as a specialist in adult and paediatric ophthalmology. In Australia, she has worked in all subspecialties within ophthalmology. Her extensive experience and training across 3 countries allows her to deliver high quality care for a wide range of eye disorders.

Dr Dev Supramaniam graduated from medical school in 2000 and undertook further study to obtain both Malaysian and Australian specialist ophthalmology qualifications. In 2013 he undertook 12 months of advanced retinal training at the Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide.

Since 2013 Dev has worked in both metropolitan and regional Australia, striving to provide quality eye care with a patient first focus. He’s performed over 10,000 eye surgeries including complex cataract and retinal surgeries. With a passionate interest in the continued development of his field, Dev has also been active in training ophthalmology registrars and fellows in his specialties, giving back to both his professional and patient community.

Dr Steven Due is a General Surgeon based in the southern suburbs of Adelaide.

After completing his medical degree at the University of Aberdeen in the UK, he moved to Adelaide to embark on surgical training. During his training, he completed a PhD in Upper GI cancer research, and subsequently obtained FRACS in General Surgery.

Dr Steven Due has established his professional base here in the southern suburbs of Adelaide, consulting at the Southern Surgical rooms on Beach Road, and operating at Flinders Private Hospital and Seaford Day Surgery. He also works at Flinders Medical Centre and Noarlunga Hospital, and holds academic status as a Senior Lecturer with Flinders University.

Ben grew up on the family farm in the McLaren Vale region moving to New South Wales to study dentistry before returning to the Fleurieu Peninsula. He is passionate about gardening and trying to grow the weird and wonderful.

Dr Rana completed his medical degree in 2007 and acquired his AMC graduation in 2009. He completed his advanced surgical training in hospitals across Adelaide, Northern territory and Frimley Park Hospital in UK. He was successful in acquiring fellowship in general surgery (FRACS) in 2018. He completed his sub speciality training in colorectal surgery with colorectal fellowship at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide and Royal North Shore Hospital Sydney. He has also attained masters of minimally invasive surgery from the University of Adelaide in 2019.

Following completion of his specialist Colorectal fellowship Abdullah was appointed to position of Colorectal and General Consultant at Flinders Medical Centre and Noarlunga Hospital. He has responsibilities towards acute admissions as well as management of specialist Colorectal cases including colorectal cancer, proctology and endoscopic procedures.

Dr Rana specialises in treatment of general colorectal disease especially colorectal cancer using minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques. He treats benign colorectal disease such as diverticular disease and all perianal diseases. He has GESA accreditation for endoscopic procedures and deals with patients needing colonoscopy for national bowel cancer screening program. He is an expert in general surgical procedures using minimally invasive and open techniques.

Professor Jamie Craig is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specializing in the care of glaucoma patients. His specialist fields are adult ophthalmology, glaucoma, cataract surgery, medical retina, diabetes, fluorescein angiography and laser treatment. He is a clinician-scientist with a strong track record in clinical and genetic research. As a NHMRC Practitioner-Fellow, he seeks to translate his laboratory-based research into clinical practice.

Specific research interests include the genetic susceptibility to all forms of glaucoma, congenital cataract, and diabetic retinopathy. He has skills in clinical diagnosis and disease management, as well as having made important discoveries on the genetic etiology of glaucoma and other ocular conditions.

He is experienced in patient recruitment, and has pioneered strategies to develop a National Registry of cases with extremely severe vision loss from glaucoma: The Australian and New Zealand Register of Advanced Glaucoma (ANZRAG). This work has led to genome-wide association studies for identification of genes associated with glaucoma susceptibility. A similar approach is now underway for blindness due to diabetic retinopathy: Registry of Advanced Diabetic Retinopathy in Australia (RADAR).

Having completed a D.Phil. in the analysis of complex traits by genome wide linkage approaches, he maintains a detailed understanding of strategies to enhance power by careful case selection, and the utilization of clinical information to refine analyses. Being responsible for direct patient care, he attaches a high priority to applying research outcomes to better models of patient care.

Dr Alex Barnes is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease and bowel cancer surveillance. His other interests include endoscopy, colonoscopy and irritable bowel syndrome.

Dr Barnes trained at Flinders Medical Centre and the Royal Adelaide Hospital, completing an IBD fellowship at Flinders Medical Centre where he currently practices, and has academic status at Flinders University. He previously trained and worked as a mechatronic engineer. He has completed a Masters of Public Health with the University of Newcastle. He is currently undertaking a PhD at Flinders University examining the significance and aetiology of sleep disorders, fatigue and mental health conditions in people with inflammatory bowel disease.

Dr Barnes consults at Flinders Private Hospital, Tennyson Centre and Seaford Day Surgery, and performs endoscopic procedures at Ashford Hospital, Flinders Private Hospital, Tennyson Centre Day Hospital and Seaford Day Surgery.

Dr Greenwell is a specialist eye surgeon with expertise in general ophthalmology, cataract, macular degeneration, diabetes, retinal conditions and uveitis.  He is committed to providing high quality, patient-focused care.

Graduating from the University of Adelaide in 2008 with a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery, Dr Greenwell completed his specialist training in South Australia and was granted fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 2018.  After successfully finishing his first four years of training, he undertook a 15 month subspecialty fellowship in uveitis and medical ophthalmology at Oxford University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Oxford, in the United Kingdom.

Outside of routine ophthalmology practice, Dr Greenwell has worked with the Adelaide-based charity Sight For All, with projects focused on training eye doctors and decreasing the burden of eye disease amongst Indigenous Australians and in the developing world.  He has published several research papers and is keenly interested in education and teaching of doctors in training and other healthcare professionals.

Edward is an accredited vascular and endovascular surgeon. Holding appointments at Flinders Medical Centre, Ashford Hospital, Calvary Adelaide Hospital and Seaford Day Surgery.

Edward offers intervention for the full spectrum of vascular disease, including aortic aneurysmal disease, aortic dissections, peripheral vascular disease, diabetic foot disease, carotid artery disease, carotid body tumours, varicose veins, deep venous disease including iliofemoral venous reconstruction, thoracic outlet syndrome and hyperhidrosis.  He will commence consulting and operating at Seaford Day Surgery on the 15^th of June.  The following day procedures will be available for patients:

• Endovenous ablation using VenaSeal or radiofrequency ablation.
• High tie and stripping of saphenous vein and multiple stab avulsions.
• Temporal artery biopsies.

Training in Adelaide and Brisbane, Edward was born and bred in Adelaide, studying medicine at Adelaide University and completing the majority of his training locally. Edward now supervises Flinders University medical students rotating through the vascular unit, and is also actively involved in supervision of vascular surgery trainees. He has also been involved in the bi-national trainee week for vascular surgery trainees through the Australia and New Zealand Society of Vascular Surgery.

Specialising in open and minimally invasive endovascular interventions, Edward has a particular interest in complex endovascular interventions. Edward is involved in training interstate and overseas vascular surgeons in advanced endovascular techniques for the treatment of peripheral vascular disease, aortic aneurysmal disease and deep venous occlusive disease.

Edward is a member of the TAVI Case Conference team involved in planning and access for TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation) in association with cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons. As part of this role Edward assists cardiology and cardiothoracic teams with vascular access for complex patients undergoing TAVI procedures. He is also a regular participant in the complex aortic multidisciplinary team meeting at Flinders Medical Centre, where the treatment of complex thoracoabdominal aortic pathology is discussed with other vascular surgeons and cardiothoracic surgeons, including chronic aortic dissections and aneurysmal disease of the aortic arch, thoracic and abdominal aorta.

Edward also specialises in renal access surgery for patients on dialysis for renal failure, including formation of AV fistulas, open and endovascular reconstruction of AV fistulas and insertion of peritoneal dialysis catheters (Tenckhoff catheters).

Dr. Sophie Plagakis is an Adelaide born, trained and based Urologist and Urological Surgeon. She and her husband Simon divide their time between their work and the family farm in McLaren Vale. 

She is a staff specialist at the Flinders Medical Centre and Noarlunga Health Service where she treats general and oncological urological conditions. She also manages the investigation of functional voiding disorders and incontinence in male and female patients. Her expertise is founded on experience at international centres of excellence such the Concord and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals in Sydney and the Virginia Mason Medical Centre in Seattle, USA. She holds a Masters degree in Public Health and advocates for system reform to improve patient safety and clinical outcomes. 

Dr. Sophie Plagakis welcomes new referrals and operates at Flinders Private Hospital, Ashford Hospital and Seaford Day Surgery. She has an interest in general urology which includes, kidney stones, haematuria and prostate disease. She is also happy to see patients with functional bladder disorders and incontinence. She can conduct appointments in English or Greek if required. 

Dr Gavin Nimon is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who will be commencing consultation and operating sessions at Seaford Day Surgery. Dr Nimon has extensive experience in surgery of the elbow, wrist/hand, shoulder and knee. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, as well as the Australian Orthopaedic Association.

Dr Nimon completed his training in 1999 in Australia and developed advanced techniques in the United Kingdom and Europe. He is currently the Head of Shoulder and Upper Limb Surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, as well as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Adelaide.

Dr Gavin Nimon understands that orthopaedic injuries can have a significant impact on your patient’s independence and quality of life. That’s why he is passionate about providing complete patient care from diagnosis, injury prevention, rehabilitation, surgery and aftercare.

Dayan is a general and colorectal surgeon and has been a consultant at Flinders Medical Centre since 2014. He was the Surgical Superintendent at FMC from 2014-2016 and is an honorary senior lecturer at Flinders University, College of Medicine and Public Health.

He graduated from Flinders University in Medicine in 1998, and with a doctorate in 2008. His doctorate involved 4 years of scientific research in the neural circuitry of the human gastrointestinal tract.

Dr John Landers is Ophthalmologist who is trained in cataract surgery, macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion and other aspects of general ophthalmology, but also subspecialises in glaucoma.

His training in ophthalmology began in country New South Wales, working in the Orange Eye Centre for 2 years before entering the South Australian Ophthalmology training scheme in 2004. He received comprehensive procedural training and became proficient in surgeries for such conditions as cataract, glaucoma, pterygium and minor lid. Following the completion of his training he undertook a Glaucoma Fellowship at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge University, in the United Kingdom.  This advanced training equipped him with further skills and subspecialty interests in surgical techniques to manage advanced glaucoma (including trabeculectomy surgery, Molteno tube implantation and Cyclodiode Laser) and complex cataract.

When he returned to Adelaide in 2010, he became an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Flinders Medical Centre where he currently supervises ophthalmology registrars in training. In his private practice, he consults at Eyemedics at two city locations, including Greenhill road Wayville and South road Morphett Vale. He also provides a monthly regional service to Port Lincoln and an annual subspecialist service to Alice Springs Hospital. In addition he has travelled to Vientiane, Laos to provide teaching and training to the glaucoma fellows at the Vientiane Ophthalmology Centre.

His skills include: cataract surgery, MIGS surgery, trabeculectomy and Molteno tube surgery, pterygium and lower lid surgery. Dr Sam Edwards graduated from Medicine at the University of Adelaide. He undertook Physician training at The Royal Adelaide Hospital, Advanced Training in Gastroenterology at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, followed by a fellowship at The Royal Free Hospital in London, UK, with a focus on the clinical management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He qualified as a gastroenterologist and Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2006, since which he has been working as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Flinders Medical Centre an in private practice.

His special interests are management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis), Endoscopy, Colonoscopy and small bowel capsule endoscopy (PillCam). He is involved with medical student and post-graduate teaching and is on the drug advisory committee at Flinders Medical Centre.

Dr Sandy Craig graduated from Adelaide University in 1992, undertook his gastroenterology training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and then completed his PhD in biliary motility at Flinders University.

Sandy has been based at Noarlunga since 2000, having previously been a visiting specialist at Flinders Medical Centre but now works in private practice with most procedures being performed at Seaford Day Surgery.  He also visits Victor/Goolwa/Yankalilla/Mt Compass weekly.

Dr Sam Hall is an experienced and caring Adelaide Gastroenterologist with extensive experience. Sam has a special interest in the provision of quality, safe colonoscopy and has completed recertification (voluntary quality assurance activities) with Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA). Sam was born in Adelaide and completed his medical training at Adelaide University in 1988. He completed his specialty training at Flinders Medical Centre and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 1995. Sam underwent further training both in the UK and in Melbourne. He has held positions as Staff Specialist in Gastroenterology and Senior Visiting Gastroenterologist at Flinders Medical Centre. Sam has visited the country for many years offering past endoscopic services to the Riverland, the South-east and Mount Pleasant. Sam now works in full-time private practice and provides Tennyson Centre Day Hospital with capsule endoscopy services.

Dr David Handley qualified from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery in 1980 and was admitted into the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 1988. He is a general ophthalmologist with special interest in cataracts, pterygium, glaucoma and medical retina including macular degeneration & diabetic eye disease.
